Public Relations Coordinator

Use Your Voice to Strengthen Communities.

Abilene Recovery Council’s  Prevention Resource Center (PRC)is seeking a motivated  Public Relations Coordinator to help build healthier communities across 30 counties in Region 2. In this role, you’ll connect with schools, organizations, and community leaders to share vital prevention resources, promote behavioral health awareness, and amplify pro-social messages that make a lasting difference.

This is more than just communications—it’s about creating partnerships, raising awareness, and inspiring change.

What You’ll Do

As a Public Relations Coordinator, you will:

• Build relationships with schools, universities, and community organizations to strengthen prevention networks.
• Promote participation in the  Texas School Survey and gather valuable data to assess local needs and trends.
• Support the Program Director in planning and hosting regional prevention trainings.
• Help manage PRC’s  website, blogs, and social media platforms to keep communities informed and engaged.
• Assist in developing impactful media campaigns (billboards, radio PSAs, news articles, editorials, etc.) addressing alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and prescription drug misuse.
• Partner with media outlets to promote statewide prevention campaigns, behavioral health promotion, and pro-social messaging.
• Attend statewide trainings and professional development opportunities to advance your expertise.
• Actively work toward a  Certified Prevention Specialist credential (training, testing, and initial certification fees covered by the Council).

What You Bring

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Creativity and independence, paired with strong organizational skills.
• A collaborative mindset and respect for others in all interactions.
• Up-to-date knowledge (or willingness to learn) about substance use prevention issues.
• A reliable vehicle and the ability to travel across Region 2 (mileage reimbursed).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• College experience or equivalent work experience in  Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
• At least 1 year of professional or volunteer experience in PR, communications, or prevention work preferred.

• Job Type: Full-time
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with some travel required
• Work Location: In-person (Abilene, TX 79601)
• Relocation: Must relocate before starting work if not currently in Abilene
